About Leap Years
What is a leap year?

A leap year is a calendar year that contains an additional day added to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical year. The extra day is added as February 29th.

Rules for determining a leap year:
  1. If the year is divisible by 400, it is a leap year.
  2. If the year is divisible by 100 but not by 400, it is not a leap year.
  3. If the year is divisible by 4 but not by 100, it is a leap year.
  4. All other years are not leap years.
Fun fact: Leap years were introduced by Julius Caesar in the Julian calendar and later refined by Pope Gregory XIII in the Gregorian calendar, which is what most of the world uses today.
